New production of Teatro alla Scala
Having traced the evolution of Verdi’s early creative years with openings of Joan of Arc, Attila and Macbeth, Riccardo Chailly now returns to a masterpiece by the mature composer, Don Carlo, of which he gave a memorable video performance in Amsterdam a few years ago. Schiller’s grand political drama, composed for Paris and adapted for La Scala by Verdi, has always been an unmissable rendezvous for La Scala maestros, from Tullio Serafin to Arturo Toscanini to Claudio Abbado, who conducted it twice on December 7, 1968 and 1977, and Riccardo Muti. For the new production, Lluís Pasqual returns to La Scala, who has made reflection on the Baroque a constant in his work since his experiences at the Teatre Llure in Barcelona and his years with Strehler at the Piccolo and the Odéon in Paris. On stage an absolute reference cast with René Pape, Anna Netrebko, Francesco Meli, Elīna Garanča, Luca Salsi and Ain Anger.
The opera begins at 7:00 p.m., unless otherwise noted.
